🔥🔥🔥 Upgrade to Kodi 17.3 Krypton to Patch Major Security Flaw (24/May/2017) 🔥🔥🔥   05/24/2017

Upgrade to Kodi 17.3 Krypton to Patch Major Security Flaw (24/May/2017)   We’re very sorry to have to bring you this news, but upgrading Kodi to the latest version (released today) is fairly urgent if you wish to keep your network secure. Earlier today, a security flaw within Kodi (and other media players including VLC) was reported by researchers from Check Point Software Technologies. They demonstrated that an attacker could gain control of any Kodi device through the use of malicious code placed within subtitles. Hypothetically, if an infected subtitle file were to be downloaded by Kodi, it could give a hacker full control over your device. This is particularly concerning when it comes to automatically downloaded subtitles. It is very important that you upgrade Kodi as soon as possible, otherwise you could be leaving your entire computer, device, or even home network at risk. Security flaws in software happens all the time, it’s normal. This security flaw also affected many other media players that are far more popular than Kodi. The important thing is that the issue was fixed quickly, and so far no damage has been reported. However, now that the security flaw has reached mainstream news, hackers will now likely be looking to exploit it far more aggressively. The official developers of Kodi have been working tirelessly to release an updated version of Kodi that would fix security flaw, as well as some other minor bugs. Team-Kodi “highly encourages” all users to install this latest version, as do we. If you’re still running Kodi 16.1 Jarvis or below, you might as well upgrade now, that way you’ll also gain access to all the streams that use newer HTTPS technology not supported in older versions of Kodi anyway. If you follow the instructions below carefully, upgrading should be super easy. Please note that these instructions describe the unofficial use of the Kodi media center. Before Proceeding Android Users: Those of you who are running older devices or cheap Android boxes might run into some trouble. Kodi 17.3 Krypton requires Android 5.0 or higher to run. If your device doesn’t support Android 5.0, you’ll need to buy a new Android TV box in order to continue to enjoy Kodi. Apple TV 2 Users: Even though the last two versions of Kodi didn’t support the Apple TV 2, the device still seemed to work alright. This will no longer be the case moving forward, without HTTPS or HD support it’ll be next to useless, it’s time to purchase a new Android TV box. United Kingdom Users: It will be necessary to disable certain router security settingsbefore continuing, we’d also highly recommend using a VPN Provider to circumvent site blocking. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day.

  2. Is it too late for Apple’s Siri to catch up with Google Home? (APPLE BYTE VIDEO PODCAST, Ep. 85) Google’s Assistant made a huge jump at I/O, and Apple will need to dig deep to show us how it can leverage the power of the ecosystem. 3. APPLE will live stream WWDC 2017 keynote on June 5 at 10AM PT Apple is now promoting its upcoming special event on June 5 at 10 am PT with a landing page and a calendar entry on apple.com. Apple’s WWDC 2017 opening keynote, which Apple will live stream, will be the first major event the company has held since last fall after foregoing a spring event this year. Apple first announced WWDC 2017, which is being held in San Jose rather than San Francisco this year, earlier than usual back in February. The early announcement has helped attendees adjust plans while a variety of community events have followed WWDC from San Francisco to San Jose this year. While the venue may be changing, Apple officially confirmed that its major keynote will still be held at 10 am PT on the first Monday of the keynote. 9to5Mac will be covering all the announcements out of the keynote and WWDC 2017 so stay tuned for all the news and analysis. Apple has also added its usual calendar reminder to www.apple.com/apple-events/june-2017/ which adds Apple Special Event to your calendar with a 15 minute alert. The event entry includes this teaser: “Join us for the WWDC keynote presentation and watch every moment live.” WWDC has strictly been a software event in recent years, but this year Apple is expected to introduce new hardware on stage as well. Alongside iOS 11, macOS 10.13, watchOS 4, and tvOS 11, Apple is expected to possibly unveil new MacBooks and MacBook Pros, the first-ever 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and the first Siri Speaker which is expected to be an competitor Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. 4. Facebook Bans Sale of Piracy-Enabling Products & Devices (KODI BOXES) Facebook has updated its Commerce Policy to include a ban on “products or items” that facilitate or encourage unauthorized access to digital media. The new rule has almost certainly been put in place to stop the further spread of “fully loaded” set-top devices running modified Kodi and similar software. Riding the crest of a wave made possible by the rise of Internet streaming, piracy-enabled set-top boxes and similar devices have been hitting the homes of millions around the globe. Often given the broad title of ‘Kodi Boxes’ after the legal open source software that commonly comes pre-installed, these devices are regularly configured for piracy with the aid of third-party addons. Easy to use, set-top devices have opened up piracy to a whole new audience, normalizing it during the process. It’s a problem now being grappled with by anti-piracy outfits in a number of ways, including putting pressure on services where the boxes are being sold. Now there are signs that Facebook has decided – or more likely been persuaded – to ban the sale of these devices from its platform. The latest addition to its Commerce Policy carries a new rule (13) which targets infringing set-top boxes almost perfectly. “Items, products or services sold on Facebook must comply with our Community Standards, as well as the Commerce Policies,” the page reads. “Sale of the following is prohibited on Facebook: Products or items that facilitate or encourage unauthorized access to digital media.” The move by Facebook follows similar overtures from Amazon back in March. In a change to its policies, the company said that devices that promote or facilitate infringement would not be tolerated. “Products offered for sale on Amazon should not promote, suggest the facilitation of, or actively enable the infringement of or unauthorized access to digital media or other protected content,” Amazon said. “Any streaming media player or other device that violates this policy is prohibited from sale on Amazon,” the company added. The recent move by Facebook was welcomed by Federation Against Copyright Theft chief, Kieron Sharp. “It is great to see Facebook follow the likes of Amazon and eBay in making changes to their policies to prohibit the sale of illicit streaming devices on their platforms,” Sharpe said. “These days social media sites are more than just a place to share photos and comments with friends and family. Unfortunately, the fast-paced development of these sites are being exploited by opportunists for criminal activity which needs to be disrupted.” The sale of infringing devices on social media does indeed pose a challenge to the likes of FACT. While most piracy devices have traditionally needed an expert touch to configure and then sell, in 2017 almost anyone can buy a standard Android device and set it up for piracy in a matter of minutes. This means that every interested citizen is a potential seller and Facebook provides a perfect platform that people are already familiar with. Nevertheless, recent rulings from the EU Court of Justice have clarified two key issues, both of which will help in the fight to reduce the availability of ‘pirate’ boxes, wherever they appear. In April, the ECJ declared such devices illegal to sell while clarifying that users who stream pirate content to their homes are also breaking the law. It’s unlikely that any end users will be punished (particularly to the ridiculous extenterroneously reported by some media), but it certainly helps to demonstrate illegality across the board when outfits like FACT are considering prosecutions. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org

  9. LOOKS LIKE ALL MY IPTV PROVIDERS FRIENDS ARE WINNING IPTV Providers Counter Premier League Piracy Blocks The Premier League and its anti-piracy partners have begun blocking some illicit IPTV streams in the UK after obtaining a High Court injunction earlier this year. However, providers are already countering the efforts in various ways, including tweaks to their Kodi addons. In the UK, top tier football is handled by The Premier League and its broadcasting partners Sky and BT Sport. All are facing problems with Internet piracy. In a nutshell, official subscriptions are far from cheap, so people are always on the lookout for more affordable alternatives. As a result, large numbers of fans are turning to piracy-enabled set-top boxes for their fix. These devices, often running Kodi with third-party addons, not only provide free or cheap football streams but also enable fans to watch matches at 3pm on Saturdays, a time traditionally covered by the blackout. To mitigate this threat, earlier this year the Premier League obtained a rather special High Court injunction. While similar in its aims to earlier orders targeting torrent sites including The Pirate Bay, this injunction enables the Premier League to act quickly, forcing local ISPs such as Sky, BT, and Virgin to block football streams in real-time. “This will enable us to target the suppliers of illegal streams to IPTV boxes, and the internet, in a proportionate and precise manner,” the Premier League said at the time. Ever since the injunction was issued, TF has monitored for signs that it has been achieving its stated aim of stopping or at least reducing stream availability. Based on information obtained from several popular IPTV suppliers, after several weeks we have concluded that Premier League streams are still easy to find, with some conditions. HD sources for games across all Sky channels are commonplace on paid services, with SD sources available for free. High-quality streams have been consistently available on Saturday afternoons for the sensitive 3pm kick-off, with little to no interference or signs of disruption. Of course, the Internet is a very big place, so it is certainly possible that disruption has been experienced by users elsewhere. However, what we do know is that some IPTV providers have been working behind the scenes to keep their services going. According to a low-level contact at one IPTV provider who demanded total anonymity, servers used by his ‘company’ (he uses the term loosely) have seen their loads drop unexpectedly during match times, an indication that ISPs might be targeting their customers with blocks. A re-seller for another well-known provider told TF that some intermittent disruption had been felt but that it was “being handled” as and when it “becomes a problem.” Complaint levels from customers are not yet considered a concern, he added. That the Premier League’s efforts are having at least some effect doesn’t appear to be in doubt, but it’s pretty difficult to find evidence in public. That being said, an IPTV provider whose identity we were asked to conceal has taken more easily spotted measures. After Premier League matches got underway this past Tuesday night, the provider in question launched a new beta service in its Kodi addon. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it allows users to cycle through proxy servers in order to bypass blocks put in place by ISPs on behalf of the Premier League. Embedded proxy service in Kodi As seen from the image above, the beta unblocking service is accessible via the service’s Kodi addon and requires no special skills to operate. Simply clicking on the “Find a Proxy to Use” menu item opens up the page below. The servers used to bypass the blocks Once a working proxy is found, access to the streams is facilitated indirectly, thereby evading the Premier League’s attempts at blocking IP addresses at the UK’s ISPs. Once that’s achieved, the list of streams is accessible again. Sky Sports streams ready, in HD The use of proxies for this kind of traffic is of interest, at least as far as the injunction goes. What we know already is that the Premier League only has permission to block servers if it “reasonably believes” they have the “sole or predominant purpose of enabling or facilitating access to infringing streams of Premier League match footage.” If any server “is being used for any other substantial purpose”, the football organization cannot block it, meaning that non-dedicated or multi-function proxies cannot be blocked by ISPs, legally at least. On Thursday evening, however, a TF source monitoring a popular IPTV provider using proxies reported that the match between Southampton and Manchester United suddenly became blocked. Whether that was due to Premier League action is unclear but by using a VPN, usual service was restored. The use of VPNs with IPTV services raises other issues, however. All Premier League blockades can be circumvented with the use of a VPN but many IPTV providers are known for being intolerant of them, since they can also be used by restreamers to ‘pirate’ their service. The Premier League injunction came into force on March 18, 2017, and will run out this weekend when the football season ends. It’s reasonable to presume that the period will have been used for testing and that the Premier League will be back in court again this year seeking a further injunction for the new season starting in August. Expect it to be more effective than it has been thus far. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  10. Component cost for 3D Touch module in OLED iPhone to rise by 150%, amidst rumors of premium priced iPhone 8 The iPhone 8 is expected to debut later this year touting a 5.8-inch OLED ‘bezel-less’ display incorporated into a new-design glass and stainless chassis. There have been many rumorsabout Apple increasing the price of the model above the current iPhone range (128 GB iPhone 7 Plustops out at $969), with some people referring to the device as an ‘iPhone Pro’. Higher component costs support the idea of a premium price tag, and this is exactly what Economic Daily News is reporting today. It claims that the 3D Touch module in the OLED iPhone will cost Apple 150% more than the equivalent parts in the LCD iPhone 7 … 3D Touch was first introduced with iPhone 6s, with headline features including home screen app shortcuts and Peek and Pop previews. The report says that touch panel manufacturer TPK currently charges $7-9 per iPhone sold to enable 3D Touch in the current iPhone series. For the upcoming OLED iPhone (tentatively named iPhone 8 by the community), the component cost for 3D Touch will more than double. EDN says that TPK has quoted Apple a cost between $18-$22 per device. Apple has seemingly accepted this quote as the next-generation iPhone production ramp is underway. Pressure-sensitive displays are more complex when the underlying screen technology is OLED (compared to LCD) because the OLED panel is more fragile. This necessitates the addition of a bonded glass cover on the front and back of the OLED panel. Digitimes says that usually an OLED-based 3D Touch solution will cost about 50% more than the LCD solution to account for the additional steps. However, Apple’s orders have been agreed at a quote that is 150% higher. It is not clear why Apple is paying top dollar for its components compared to the industry average. Speculatively, the iPhone 8 may include some cutting-edge display feature (Touch ID in the screen?) that requires additional care and processing. Apple analyst KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo has previously reported the need for a new intricate 3D Touch module for iPhone 8. Whatever the reason, a cost increase from $9 to $22 per unit is a significant increase in Apple’s bill of materials. Any increase in component cost will generally imply an increase in the final price of the product as Apple will want to maintain its margins. Therefore, this report supports the idea of the new iPhone 8 having a significantly higher price tag. A JP Morgan analyst previously predicted total BOM cost for the iPhone 8 will be about $90 more than the current phones. Apple is expected to debut the premium OLED iPhone later this year, touting wireless charging, 3D-sensing front cameras, face recognition and more features in addition to the new design. It is has also been reported that the company will unveil two iterative updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which will include new internal upgrades but look mostly the same from the outside. These ‘7s’ devices would retain current price points giving room for Apple to make the iPhone 8 more expensive. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org

  14. EPIX app arrives on the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick The Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick lineup of streaming apps from cable networks is fairly robust these days. So much so that there aren’t too many major networks missing from the platform, so new network apps are rare these days. EPIX has been expected on the platform, after hinting at an upcoming app, and now they’ve finally arrived with an all new Fire TV app. Like so many cable network apps, the new EPIX app does require activation through a TV provider before you can view any of its content, but once activated, the app provides access to a very robust library of movies. EPIX does have a small selection of original shows, but the star of the show is definitely their library of thousands of movies which are all available on demand through the new app. The home screen of the app looks almost identical to the Fire TV’s updated interface. The upper half of the screen is taken up by information and an image of the highlighted content, while the bottom half is full of stacked rows of content in various categories. There are numerous movie groups, like “Most Watched” and “New On EPIX,” to help you find something to watch. You’ll also find curated collections, like “Classic 80s Movies,” and multi-movie series, like Bond and Indiana Jones, on the home screen. Selecting a movie or TV show lets you play the content if the app is activated, watch a trailer, or add it to a watch list. Selecting the “View More” option just gives you a list of the cast and crew in the movie or episode. If you just want to browse the entire catalogue of movies, you can jump into the “See All (A-Z)” area of the app where you’ll find a seemingly never-ending wall of movies and shows to scroll through. The “Live” section of the app lists what’s currently airing on the four EPIX channels: EPIX, EPIX2, EPIX Hits, and EPIX Drive-in. From there you can jump directly to the currently airing movie’s on demand listing to start watching the movie from the beginning. There’s a very basic search function in the app that could certainly be improved with additional search options. It does not appear as though EPIX has integrated their catalogue with the Fire TV’s universal search yet, so you won’t be able to use Alexa or the main Fire TV interface to find content within the EPIX app. In the “Settings” area of the app is oddly where you’ll find your watch queue and watch history. While browsing around the app, you can select to add any movie or series episode to your watch queue, where it’ll be saved for easy access. The settings area also has the usual closed captioning and log out options. The parental controls section just informs you to manage settings on the epix.com website. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
