  7. Apple in ‘panic’ mode as iPhone 8’s 3D face detection & wireless charging potentially delayed Apple’s trials and tribulations over the upcoming iPhone 8 have been well documented thus far and a new report this evening from Fast Company continues that trend. The report explains that Apple’s team of engineers and designers working on the iPhone are operating with a “sense of panic in the air” as we near the device’s unveil later this year… Furthermore, Apple is struggling to get the iPhone 8’s front-facing 3D sensor to work properly when paired with iOS. The issue again is not hardware related, but rather due to iOS itself. Like wireless charging, this feature too could be missing at launch and added via a later software update. Lastly, the elephant in the room: Touch ID. Today’s report explains that it’s “plausible” that Apple is still trying to decide where Touch ID will be located, as a report earlier today claimed. However, Fast Company’s source adds that “in all likelihood” Touch ID will be embedded under the OLED display. The iPhone 8 (which also could be called the iPhone Pro or iPhone X, according to today’s report) is expected to be announced this fall with a release shortly thereafter. It seems, however, that iOS 11.1, or whatever it may be, could be the bigger news this fall. What do you think of Apple potentially releasing the iPhone 8 without some major features enabled? Thank You And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org

  10. Report: iPhone 8 to come in four color choices including new ‘mirror-like’ model Apple’s flagship iPhone this year is said to a have an OLED screen, an all-glass design, wireless charging, and much more. Now, Twitter leaker Benjamin Geskin is claiming that the device will come in four colors – one of which is a new mirror-like option… Not a whole lot is known about the new color option, but Geskin has shared an example of what the device could look like. It’s important to note that the image Geskin uses is actually an iPhone in a mirror case, but the overall idea is the same and can be seen below. It almost sounds as if the iPhone 8 will feature the mirror-like glass design of the old iPod models, seen above, but the mirror deign would likely wrap around the edges to the stainless steel bezels. Geskin’s claim comes from an unnamed source and follows a report from the generally reliable Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI. Kuo noted in his report that the iPhone 8 will be available in fewer colors than usual in an effort to maintain a “boutique” branding. KGI has a strong track record, but note that he said “fewer” colors, not necessarily ruling out a new mirror-like option. In the past, we’ve seen alleged iPhone 8 images emerge showing the device in black and white. If Geksin’s claim of a mirror option is true, it’s unclear what the fourth iPhone 8 color option would be, with gold and rose gold both potential options. One possibility is that Geskin’s source is confusing a new ‘mirror-like’ option with the jet black color, which is already rather mirror-like. In addition to Geskin’s new claim, YouTuber UnboxTherapy today shared a new hands-on video of an alleged iPhone 8 prototype that is believed to be a 1:1 CNC model produced from factory dimension information. The video offers a detailed look at the device and its overall size and design. Watch it below. Today’s iPhone 8 news comes following a pair of bombshell reports claiming the device won’t feature Touch ID at all, but instead new facial recognition technology. Other reports have claimed in-screen Touch ID, while some have said rear-facing Touch ID. What do you think of a new mirror-like iPhone 8 option? Is it something you would be interested in? Let us know what you think down in the comments Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  11. iPhone 8 to feature Touch ID directly on the OLED screen with optical fingerprint sensor A new report from Economic Daily News, via Digitimes, indicates that the iPhone 8 will use a new optical fingerprint sensor technology to enable users to place their fingers directly on the OLED display and have the phone scan the print, as an elegant replacement for the existing Touch ID home button. The screen ratio will change from 16:9 on iPhone 7 to 18.5:9 (corroborating many other sources) and ‘invisible’ Infrared sensors will unlock enhanced camera and augmented reality features. Apparently, TSMC discussed these upcoming flagship iPhone features at a Taipei symposium. The iPhone 8 is expected to be a radical update in both functionality and appearance, with a stainless steel and glass chassis. The display will increase to 5.8-inches and yet the phone will not be much bigger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 as the front face will be nearly bezel-less and dominated by screen. The fate of the fingerprint sensor has been disputed by rumors over the last few months. There have been rumors about a fingerprint sensor in the power button, a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone and the idea of an integrated-display scanner. This latest report from Economic Daily News suggests that the most elegant solution is what Apple is going with. With a virtual home button drawn on the display, users would simply place their fingers on the screen and the optical scanner would authenticate the fingerprint. The details about the infrared sensor for AR and camera mirror previous reports from KGI. In the previous report, Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that the infrared depth-sensing would be used for facial recognition offering iPhone 8 users another way to unlock the device. The sourcing of this latest report is promising. Digitimes is transcribing the Chinese language Economic Daily News paper who says that its information comes from TSMC sources who shared details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone at a company conference. TSMC is manufacturing the Apple A11 chip and it is not implausible for them to have intimate access to the next-gen iPhone hardware. Whilst the provenance is by no means a definitive source of reliability, it is not that farfetched either. Apple is set to debut the iPhone 8 in the fall, although the premium features will come at seemingly higher prices than current iPhone models. The company is also rumored to be launching two ‘7s’ phones in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes which will largely resemble the current-generation iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. These two iterative new models will be priced at the usual levels and focus on internal component improvements. Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  12. Component cost for 3D Touch module in OLED iPhone to rise by 150%, amidst rumors of premium priced iPhone 8 The iPhone 8 is expected to debut later this year touting a 5.8-inch OLED ‘bezel-less’ display incorporated into a new-design glass and stainless chassis. There have been many rumorsabout Apple increasing the price of the model above the current iPhone range (128 GB iPhone 7 Plustops out at $969), with some people referring to the device as an ‘iPhone Pro’. Higher component costs support the idea of a premium price tag, and this is exactly what Economic Daily News is reporting today. It claims that the 3D Touch module in the OLED iPhone will cost Apple 150% more than the equivalent parts in the LCD iPhone 7 … 3D Touch was first introduced with iPhone 6s, with headline features including home screen app shortcuts and Peek and Pop previews. The report says that touch panel manufacturer TPK currently charges $7-9 per iPhone sold to enable 3D Touch in the current iPhone series. For the upcoming OLED iPhone (tentatively named iPhone 8 by the community), the component cost for 3D Touch will more than double. EDN says that TPK has quoted Apple a cost between $18-$22 per device. Apple has seemingly accepted this quote as the next-generation iPhone production ramp is underway. Pressure-sensitive displays are more complex when the underlying screen technology is OLED (compared to LCD) because the OLED panel is more fragile. This necessitates the addition of a bonded glass cover on the front and back of the OLED panel. Digitimes says that usually an OLED-based 3D Touch solution will cost about 50% more than the LCD solution to account for the additional steps. However, Apple’s orders have been agreed at a quote that is 150% higher. It is not clear why Apple is paying top dollar for its components compared to the industry average. Speculatively, the iPhone 8 may include some cutting-edge display feature (Touch ID in the screen?) that requires additional care and processing. Apple analyst KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo has previously reported the need for a new intricate 3D Touch module for iPhone 8. Whatever the reason, a cost increase from $9 to $22 per unit is a significant increase in Apple’s bill of materials. Any increase in component cost will generally imply an increase in the final price of the product as Apple will want to maintain its margins. Therefore, this report supports the idea of the new iPhone 8 having a significantly higher price tag. A JP Morgan analyst previously predicted total BOM cost for the iPhone 8 will be about $90 more than the current phones. Apple is expected to debut the premium OLED iPhone later this year, touting wireless charging, 3D-sensing front cameras, face recognition and more features in addition to the new design. It is has also been reported that the company will unveil two iterative updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus which will include new internal upgrades but look mostly the same from the outside. These ‘7s’ devices would retain current price points giving room for Apple to make the iPhone 8 more expensive. Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  13. KGI: There’s a ‘rising probability of worst-case scenario’ for iPhone 8 shortages Reports of delays and production difficulties have been plentiful for the iPhone 8, and it doesn’t seem like things are going to get much better. KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new report this evening in which he says that there’s a “rising probability” of the “worst scenario” for production and shipments of the device… In a note released to analysts today, Kuo explains that Apple is still facing production difficulties with the iPhone 8 due to the “major hardware upgrades.” While Kuo previously outlined the possibility of delays, he now says that there is a “rising probability of worst-case scenario for iPhone shipments” and is dropping his shipment prediction from 100-110 million units to 80-90 million units. We are seeing more evidence that the worst-case scenario forecasted in our April 19 report could materialize, where new iPhone shipments in 2H17F are revised down to 80- 90mn units from 100-110mn units (vs. consensus of 100-120mn units). Kuo reiterates his earlier reports, saying that the production ramp of the OLED iPhone could be pushed as late as October or November, compared to the normal August-September ramp. In turn, this will cause “severe supply shortages” for “a while after the new models are launched.” As for other iPhone 8 uncertainties, Kuo says there are things that investors should keep their eye on as we head closer to the fall: (1) whether the 3D sensor of OLED iPhone provides an innovative user experience; (2) whether OLED iPhone cancels Touch ID (fingerprint recognition); and (3) whether Apple’s competitors launch more innovative products which could compete with OLED iPhone Kuo has been consistent in reporting that Apple is facing difficulties manufacturing the iPhone 8. Back in April, the analyst explained that major component upgrades were causing supply bottlenecks. While some other reports claimed that production was on track, Kuo’s latest report reaffirms his earlier stance. The iPhone 8 will likely be announced in September of this year, with availability the following month. However, it appears that availability will be sparse at first, due to these production difficulties. We will have to wait and see jut how extensive the supply shortages turn out to be. Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  14. iPhone 8 and iPhone 7s reportedly set to go on sale in October, mass production ‘on schedule’ There have been a few reports recently about delays in the production pipeline for Apple’s next-generation iPhones. A new report from Economic Daily News claims that mass production of iPhone 8 and iPhone 7s is on track for the new iPhones to be announced by Apple in September and go on sale in October. According to EDN, via Digitimes, one of the big issues was manufacturing of the new substrate-like circuit boards set to feature in all three new iPhones. Yields of these components have apparently now been improved. For the last few years, Apple has announced its latest iPhone in September and released in the same month. Last year, Apple announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on September 7, 2016 and the devices went on sale on September 16, 2016. The Economic Daily News report characterizes the 2017 production as being ‘on schedule’. Technically, a public availability of the iPhone 8 and 7s devices in October would still represent a slight delay compared to the pattern of the last few years. It seems like mass production of iPhone internal components will start in June, with TSMC fabricating A11 SoC wafers as soon as June 10 according to the report. The substrate-like parts will also being volume manufacturing in June. Foxconn and Pegatron are accelerating hiring of workers en masse to prepare for iPhone 8 assembly. Apple is widely expected to be launching three new iPhone models for 2017. Although final marketing names are unknown, the company is readying two ‘iPhone 7s phones featuring the same chassis design as the current generation with a focus on internal upgrades; better performance, better battery life and wireless charging. Apple is also expected to announce a radical new iPhone, being dubbed ‘iPhone 8.’ This phone will incorporate a larger 5.8-inch OLED display into the same physical case size as a 4.7-inch iPhone 7. This means the phone will have drastically smaller bezels allowing the screen to dominate the front face. The chassis will apparently be made of stainless steel sides and glass on the front and back. Although the physical appearance of the iPhone 8 is still unclear, many rumors point to the inclusion of a 3D-sensing front camera, A11 SoC, improved waterproofing, a new vertical rear dual-camera system with optical image stabilization on both lenses, wireless inductive charging, and more. Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  15. KGI: iPhone 8 mass production delayed to October/November as major component upgrades cause supply bottlenecks We’ve been hearing several reports that the launch of the iPhone 8 could be delayed compared to previous years. Reputable Apple analyst KGI Ming-Chi Kuo has also weighed in today, reporting that mass production of the OLED iPhone will likely be pushed back to October/November, instead of the normal August/September timeframe for new iPhone launches. KGI says the reason for the production difficulties is that the new iPhone 8 includes several major cutting-edge components that Apple has custom-ordered. The analyst still expects the iterative ‘7S’ models to launch on the normal schedule … KGI says that a delay of one to two months for the production ramp of iPhone 8 will hurt Apple’s calendar 2017 sales as customers will want to wait for the shiny new device to be available. It will also mean Apple faces stiff competition from Android manufacturers for a longer period, as its rivals launch bezel-less devices across the year. That being said, Apple is unlikely to lose too many sales if looking longer-term. Most customers who want the new iPhone will simply buy it when it is finally available even if that means early 2018. KGI blames several ‘significant hardware upgrades’ in the iPhone 8 for the delays. This includes a custom OLED display panel, a custom Apple A11 10-nanometer SoC, an all-new designed 3D Touch module and 3D sensing cameras. We’ve heard about all of these features before, of course. The rumour mill still isn’t sure what the new iPhone will look like, although images leaked over the weekend depicting a potential final design. KGI expects severe supply shortages for the OLED phone “for a while” after launch, limiting total iPhone shipments for 2017. Moreover, KGI has a more pessimistic outlook about the iPhone 7s models (iterative updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with internal component upgrades contained in the same chassis design) than before. Full-screen smartphones from Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi will make Apple’s lower-end phones less appealing. Before the news about production problems, KGI expected new iPhone shipments (comprising the 7s, 7s Plus and the iPhone 8) to reach 110 million units in the second half of 2017. With the OLED iPhone availability set to be very limited, it has reduced his estimates to 80-90 million units. Apple is expected to announce all the new iPhones in the fall. The iterative iPhone 7s models will likely launch in September, keeping up with the annual pattern. Apple will probably announce the 7s and radical new OLED iPhone at the same media event regardless. However, it seems fans wanting the all-new phone will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the iPhone 8. Thank You ? And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org
  16. Launch of next-generation iPhone 8 may be pushed to October or November, says report The iPhone 8 may debut later than we have been used to, according to a new report. For the last few years, Apple has announced its new iPhone lineup at a September event in the fall with a release date a couple weeks later. For example, the iPhone 7 was announced on September 7th and released on September 16th. This year, Economic Daily News (via Digitimes) is suggesting that the launch may be pushed back to October or November, as production of the radical new iPhone has faced challenges … The paper cites ‘technical issues’ as the reason for the delay compared to recent history, with suppliers struggling to perfect the lamination process of curved OLED panels and adoption of the 3D sensing front camera system. Apple has launched its new iPhone model in September every year since the iPhone 5; the iPhone 4s debuted in early October. Before that, iPhone models went on sale in June. Although reports about Apple facing production issues seem to appear every year, there is some supporting evidence here. An independent report from early March has already said that the iPhone 8 (which is not necessarily the final marketing name of the flagship 2017 iPhone) would ship later than September as Apple needed time to ramp production of the 3D front camera components. Another point to consider is that Foxconn has been pretty quiet on the leaks front, given the calendar. By April, we normally see a flood of next-gen iPhone cases, schematics leak and blurry photos from the factory floor. This is yet to happen for iPhone 8. Either Apple has tightened security to improve secrecy … or the devices are yet to be produced in mass quantities. Digitimes previously claimed that the iPhone 8 would not go into mass production until September although fabrication of Apple A11 chips will apparently start rolling this month. Even if the availability of the iPhone 8 ultimately turns out to be October or November, this doesn’t preclude Apple from holding their fall event in September regardless. They could unveil the new phone with a longer lead time until launch. With rumors that Apple is preparing three new iPhone models this year, it is also very plausible that the company launches the two minor-upgrade devices in September to fill the gap until the radical redesigned OLED device debuts a month or two later. Apple could also simply announce the iPhone 8 as going on sale in late September as usual, but have fewer units available to buy so that the device is back-ordered for a longer period, effectively pushing the general availability date into the November timeframe, echoing the launch of the Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus. There is a lot of hype for this new phone. The iPhone 8 is expected to feature an all-new industrial design with a glass and stainless steel chassis, a 5.8-inch gently-curved edge-to-edge OLED display, a bezel-less front, a 3D depth-sensing front camera, wireless charging, a virtual Home Buttonwith integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor, facial recognition and much more. All this new technology has also resulted in many reports claiming that the iPhone 8 will be the most expensive iPhone yet, with prices potentially above $1000. Apple is also expected to introduce modest updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, dubbed ‘7s’ phones with mainly internal components upgrades, at normal iPhone prices.

  21. KGI: OLED iPhone 8 to feature ‘revolutionary’ 3D-sensing front camera, detects depth for games and facial recognition Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 is going to feature a major upgrade to the front camera, according to Apple analyst KGI Ming-Chi Kuo. A report published today says that the OLED iPhone will include a ‘revolutionary’ front camera and Infrared module that can sense the 3D space in front of it. The analyst says the new components will be able to merge the depth information with the 2D images from the front camera for applications including face recognition, iris recognition, and 3D selfies … The analyst says the advanced 3D front camera system could be used in new innovative games that can accurately replace a character’s head with that of the user. The combination of front camera and 3D sensor would allow the iPhone to generate a 3D selfie which could be used in augmented reality. The hardware will use algorithms developed by PrimeSense, which Apple acquired in 2013. The sensor will apparently be able to detect the location and depth of objects it can see. Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus already includes an immature form of depth detection by including two rear cameras that use their optical parallax offset to determine distance away. KGI says the 3D sensing front camera for iPhone 8 would be much more advanced using a dedicated Infrared transmitter and receiver. The Infrared transmitter will apparently use vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser technology from Lumentum (as previously rumored), the front camera will be produced by Sony and the IR receiver will be manufactured by Foxconn/Sharp. The 3D system works by sending invisible IR light signals outwards from the phone and then detecting the signals that bounce back off of objects using the 1.4 megapixel IR receiver. Looking beyond 2017, KGI says next-generation iPhones will likely add 3D sensing rear cameras as well, potentially removing the need for large dual camera iris systems. The analyst says Apple is years ahead of Android platform in terms of 3D algorithms which will make the advanced 3D camera sensor a unique iPhone feature for a couple of years. The OLED iPhone is expected to be a major upgrade over the current iPhone 7 series in both design and functionality. Moving away from LCD panels, Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone is rumoured to feature a large 5.8 inch OLED display with 520 PPI in a bezel-less glass design. The Home Button is expected to be replaced by a virtual ‘function area’, leaving about 5.2 inch screen area for application content. Despite the larger screen, the phone is expected to be amount the same size as a 4.7 inch iPhone 7 thanks to space savings by removing almost all bezels. Other iPhone 8 rumors include the addition of wireless charging, better water resistance, and some form of face recognition biometrics, which may tie in to the latest news of the 3D front camera. The new iPhone 8 has been rumored to cost upwards of $1000. CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL BY CLICKING HERE ?The Mixdoctor ? 23. KGI: iPhone 8 to feature new function area in place of Touch ID According to a new investor note from reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 will adopt a new “function area” at the bottom the display. This feature is possible due to the near bezel-less design of the iPhone 8 and subsequent bump in screen size to 5.8-inch. The function area is said to be located in the same area as the current Home button and will thus replace Touch ID. Kuo notes, however, that Apple plans to make up for the lack of Touch ID with new biometric technologies that will be able to securely offer similar functionalities as Touch ID. While Kuo doesn’t dive into specifics, features such as facial recognition have been rumored before. Kuo’s latest report also offers more details on size. With the new function area housing virtual buttons and other actions, Kuo says that the usable display real estate will be around 5.15-inches. The overall face of the device is expected to be 5.8-inches, though. It’s unclear what exact will be housed in the “function area,” but it is likely that it will be some sort of virtual buttons and quick actions, perhaps similar to the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro. Earlier this week, Kuo issued a note claiming that the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone 8 would be similar in size to the current 4.7-inch model, while also including a much bigger battery. From our report on Monday: It has been rumored that the iPhone 8 will cost as much as $1000, a price that is higher than the current top of the line iPhone 7 Plus, but isn’t as crazy as it may sound on the surface. Other rumored features include an all-glass design, ‘wireless’ charging, and much more. In another report today, KGI also explained that the iPhone 8 will be “the only bright spot among the new iPhone lineup” this year. Kuo predicts that momentum form the refresh will continue into Chinese New Year of 2018. What do you think of Apple adding a new “function area” to the iPhone? 24. iPhone 8 production to begin early, supply chain insists, as iris scanner remains rumoured A new supply chain report from Digitimes claims Apple is shifting iPhone 8 production up earlier than usual for the company. The report also continues to push the rumor that Apple is planning iris scanning technology in the next flagship iPhone. While earlier than usual production was separately reported earlier this week, a Fast Company piece two days ago cited an anonymous source in saying that the iPhone 8 will likely still launch around the usual September timeframe. It’s possible Apple is ramping up production earlier to meet what is expected to be greater than usual demand without sacrificing quality. Digitimes also cites industry sources in claiming Apple plans to introduce iris scanning and wireless charging in the new iPhone. Fast Company specifically named Lumentum earlier this week as one firm supplying a new laser sensor for the upcoming iPhone which could be used for depth perception with Apple’s new biometric security technology. While at least one model of the new iPhone is expected to retail for over $1000, KGI yesterday released an investor report pointing to a change in 3D Touch display technology that will be partly to blame for higher production costs. In that report, KGI predicts all three new iPhone models will include wireless charging technology, too, which has not yet been done on any iPhone. Apple is also expected to introduce a new design later this year after the iPhone 7 largely iterated on the iPhone 6 look. An all-glass design with stainless steel borders could be the first to introduce an OLED display and stronger water resistance. CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL BY CLICKING HERE ?The Mixdoctor ?
