  1. Almost five million Brits are regularly streaming TV content from illegal Internet services. That’s one of the findings from a new YouGov study which shows that Kodi-powered devices and Android apps are particularly popular with users. Of concern to authorized services is that hundreds of thousands of pirates say they’re canceling their official subscriptions. With Internet access almost universal across the UK and a young, tech-savvy audience fully clued-up on the wonders of on-demand content, little wonder that new ways to consume content are being gobbled up across the country. Unfortunately for content providers, those methods aren’t always official. In fact, all signs point to an uptick in illegal content consumption from a range of relatively new devices which excel when it comes to ease of access. We’re talking about software such as Kodi, the legal media player that can be super-charged to provide a full-on piracy experience. Or custom Android apps like Showbox, Terrarium TV and Mobdro, each capable of delivering premium movies, TV shows and sport, without the user ever paying a penny. The popularity of illegal streaming has prompted market research firm YouGov to conduct a survey on the consumption habits of Brits, with the company concluding that such services pose a “major threat” to TV subscription brands in the UK. According to its “Illegal Streaming” survey, just short of five million people in the UK are using pirate TV streaming services. YouGov says that around 10% of the adult population (4.9m people) currently have access to custom Kodi boxes, modified Fire TV sticks, and illegal streaming apps running on smartphones and tablets. The part that will send shudders down the spines of companies like Sky, Virgin and BT – who are not only ISPs but major content providers too – is that pirate consumers are backing away from premium services. YouGov says that one out of every seven ‘pirate’ streamers say that their use of unauthorized platforms has caused them to cancel “at least one subscription service.” The market researchers note that the actual number of subscriptions is likely to be lower due to the discrepancy between households and individuals but still, the numbers remain significant. For now at least, there is a significant number of people who maintain both legal subscriptions and parallel pirate setups. However, YouGov reports that almost a third of pirates (31%) say they will cancel official subscriptions during the next 12 months. There can be little doubt that the rise of so-called “living room” streaming can be attributed to word-of-mouth marketing, with people finding excitement in the range of content on offer for a negligible outlay. With that in mind, YouGov reports that six out of ten pirates say they intend to promote the availability of unauthorized services to both friends and family. If the growth that promotion fuels meets YouGov’s expectations, the numbers of people getting into the piracy scene could be significant. The market research company reports that 2.6 million non-pirates say they’re preparing to start using illegal streaming platforms in the future, with 400,000 predicting involvement within the next 90 days. And here’s the problem. YouGov reports that almost 90% of these non-pirates currently have a subscription to an official TV service but should they get involved, almost half are predicting that they will cancel them within 12 months of obtaining a pirate device. Over in the United States, it was recently reported that more than half of all millennials regularly use pirate streaming services to watch TV shows or movies. The numbers in the UK aren’t so high, but they remain significant nonetheless. According to YouGov, 18 to 34-year-olds account for 37% of pirate users, around 1.8 million people. The survey also touched on people’s attitudes towards unauthorized streaming, and it comes as no surprise that many feel the high prices of genuine products justifies the use of illicit alternatives. Bundled packaging means that people in the UK are often required to spend large amounts of money on channels they don’t even watch, so when cheaper options are made available, few have sympathy for what are perceived to be rich content providers. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day. The Mixdoctor Team Member of koditalk.org

  6. Beware of Android TV Box Sellers Preloading Devices with Kodi Addons We probably should have reported on this sooner, but recently this issue became a bit more serious. It has been reported that criminal gangs are now in the business of selling preloaded Kodi boxes, and this is bringing legal trouble to the whole Kodi ecosystem. There’s a lot of misinformation that’s been spread throughout the Kodi community, mainly by those by seek to profit from our hard work. We all need to act responsibly in order to ensure the continued existence of our community. We’re going to start by defining the term “box seller” in order to avoid confusion. The term “box seller” refers to someone who is selling Android TV boxes preloaded with Kodi addons. These are the people you’ll find with kiosks in your local shopping mall, at the flea market, on Craigslist, and even on eBay. We’re not referring to legitimate companies like NVIDIA, Xiaomi, Amazon or MINIX, who manufacture quality Android TV boxes, and do not ship with any preinstalled addons. As a consumer, you should be aware that most box sellers out there are not selling the best possible hardware for Kodi. They are selling the boxes that they buy for cheap from China, which they can make the most money off. These cheap Chinese boxes have very high defect rates, and are nowhere near future proof. There’s no reason to pay for low quality hardware, when you can get some of the best brand name Kodi hardware for under $100 anyway. The type of people attracted to selling these type of sketchy products generally aren’t the most honorable nor educated of individuals. We’ve taken notice to the fact that most box sellers out there outright lie to their customers about the reliability of the product, and provide nowhere near the quality of support promised, if there’s any support at all. We get dozens of emails per week asking us for refunds (when we never sold anything to anyone), some box sellers even claim to be associated to us. The first reason we have a problem with these people is because they are bringing the type of legal trouble that could potentially lead to the total downfall of the Kodi community. In terms of legality, there isn’t much trouble that can arise from sharing open source code that allows for the scraping of web content. It becomes a whole other story when you’re bundling it together as a free TV product and selling it as opposed to giving it away for free. We have nothing to do with these people and since they do absolutely nothing positive for the Kodi community, they should feel ashamed for tarnishing the Kodi name. The second reason we have a problem with them is because we’re the ones spending thousands of hours writing and maintaining the addons, meanwhile they are taking what we give away for free and selling it for huge profits. We don’t do what we do so that some low life can go around selling it to people, if those people want to use Kodi or our addons, they should download it for free and install it for themselves, that way they’ll actually be able to maintain their Kodi device in the future. Right now, we end up with pissed off box seller customers coming to our forums and abusing our developers, since they feel they are owed the support they paid for. Lastly, there is the whole paid IPTV thing that box sellers are pushing. These services are plaguing our community, with new ones popping up and shutting down every month. They are trying to turn our community into something it is not, a marketplace. The only reason the Kodi community exists is because of sharing and open source collaboration, charging people money for illegitimate access to streams is not part of that equation. These paid IPTV services have caught the eye (rightfully so) of many broadcasters, with the Kodicommunity being collateral damage. The moral of the story is if you’re going to use Kodi or Kodi addons, please buy Kodi hardware only from legitimate retailers and not from criminals who are going to rip you off. Profiteers are causing us nothing but grief, contributing absolutely nothing to the community, and are bringing the type of trouble that could very well one day lead to the end of Kodi as we know it. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day.

  8. Hi All, Ok I am purposely leaving one of my boxes (A Fire Stick) alone with the latest build of The Beast that was for Kodi 16. I am doing this out of interest to update our members who have not made the move or cant move because of the ages of their boxes, and to see how long it will last before it fully breaks if ever it does. So far all the addons that were in The Beast Build are still fully updating themselves so this is still working. There are reports floating around about addons that scrape sites like Exodus, SALTS etc not working to there full potential as apparently reports say the streams are moving from http to https (I read somewhere), well I can say that as of yet I have not noticed anything different (but no doubt that will change). I am still getting all the latest movies and TV episodes also all the old stuff and season without any problems, so in a nut shell I will say that at the moment this is still working fine. I will update this discussion over time as things change or drop off and I would also like to hear from any member that have Kodi 16.1 Jarvis running that notices any change or anything no longer working to join in and let us know please to keep this thread updated. So all in all at the moment everything is still functioning apart from The Echo wizard (I think it's that one as I deleted mine as I don't use wizards) apart from The Beast obviously 😂😂 Obviously things I find that stop working I will look for updates but if they no longer supporting Jarvis I will delete the said addon from the build. So lets see how long our old friend Kodi 16.1 Jarvis will last Guys n Gals. Keep an eye on this thread for updates. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day.

  13. TVAddons, the leading repository for unofficial Kodi addons, continues to broaden its user-base. Last month nearly 40 million unique users connected to the site’s servers, transferring a dazzling petabyte of data. If it’s up to the site’s operators, the recent growth will be just the beginning of an ongoing trend. Streaming piracy is on the rise with popular media player Kodi at the center of attention. While Kodi itself is a neutral platform, millions of people use third-party addons to turn it into the ultimate pirate machine. TVAddons is of the largest repositories of these plugins. The site, which is also the home of FreeTelly, a custom pre-loaded version of Kodi for PC and Mac, is the go-to destination for those who want to upgrade their Kodi experience. Over the past year-and-a-half, interest in Kodi has skyrocketed, something that’s in large part driven by “pirate” addons. As such, TVAddons has also seen its visitor numbers shoot through the roof. The site’s latest numbers show how rapidly the platform is growing. Roughly a year ago the repository had about 10 million unique users per month, and last month this number was reached in a single day. Most of these users aren’t visiting the website. They are people checking in from their devices to see if there’s anything new. Still, the numbers are quite impressive. The graph below shows that every month more than forty million Kodi-enabled devices with their addons are online, checking for updates. In terms of actual bandwidth used, there was also a milestone reached last month. In total, TVAddons users transferred a petabyte of data from the site, or one quadrillion (short scale) bytes. The traffic is divided over a wide array of addons. The site currently lists 1,544 different versions, of which the community-maintained Genesis addon is one of the most popular. How frequently these individual addons are used, remains a mystery though. TVAddons’ Eleazar informs TorrentFreak that they don’t keep any statistics on the use of individual addons. In part to avoid a competitive atmosphere, but also for privacy reasons. “We don’t allow addons to keep individual stats. It would turn our open source and positive ‘pay-it-forward’ minded community into a place of fierce competition, which is not part of our principles. It would also be a privacy issue, no one wants their piracy tracked,” he says. In addition, the site is also doing its best to keep profit-seekers away from its platform. This includes people who are trying to sell paid access to pirated content, including unofficial IPTV suppliers. “We do not support all these profit-seeking operations like paid IPTV, people selling preloaded Kodi boxes and other stuff. We do what we do for free, for the purpose of sharing and working on our own skills, not so that other people can sell it or try to advertise to our user base,” Eleazar notes. Going forward, TVAddons will focus on improving its current services so that users can have access to media content in the most convenient way possible. By hosting pirate addons, the site itself isn’t particularly liked by copyright holders, but that doesn’t stop the team from moving ahead. “Right now we’re just working on making things easier and more efficient,” Eleazar says. Given the recent growth, the public agrees that the team is on the right path. It will be interesting to see if the repository can keep up these growth numbers. They could easily go up to 100 million unique users this time next year, or down to zero, depending on how the wind blows. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day.
  14. Nagra Targets Pirate Kodi Streaming Addons and IPTV While reasonably effective satellite and cable TV anti-piracy systems do exist, these are being entirely circumvented by pirate content delivered over the Internet. No surprise then that conditional access companies such as NAGRA are spreading their wings, targeting illegal IPTV and third-party Kodi addons. Since their very inception, satellite and cable TV systems have been vulnerable to those who enjoy watching content but prefer not to pay. Many ‘solutions’ have been developed to offer consumers the chance to watch premium content for free, or close to it, via the use of modified receivers, replacement or hacked smart cards, or more recently so-called ‘card sharing‘ arrangements. In response, so-called conditional access companies have developed advanced systems to ensure that viewers are also subscribers. One of the more successful is Nagravision (NAGRA), a system that is deployed in set-top boxes around the world. But while NAGRA in this particular form can go some way towards protecting content delivered through proprietary devices, it can be bypassed by content delivered over the Internet, such as via streaming sites, augmented Kodi setups, and illegal IPTV services. To that end, NAGRA and the International Broadcaster Coalition Against Piracy (IBCAP) have announced an expanded agreement “to bring a new generation of anti-piracy technology and services” to broadcasters and distributors of international and multicultural content. “Developing automated, state-of-the-art tools to detect unauthorized streaming – especially on increasingly popular IPTV set-top boxes and Kodi add-ons – helps ensure we can take swift and decisive action against pirates and maintain the value of the services offered to IBCAP members,” says Frederic Guitard, Vice President Media Security Services for NAGRA. IBCAP and NAGRA have been working together since 2014, and the expansion of the agreement was welcomed by Chris Kuelling, Executive Director of IBCAP. “The expansion of our agreement with NAGRA will help us leverage the latest technologies and expertise in content protection and anti-piracy with the aim of putting pirates out of business and replacing them with legitimate providers,” he said. NAGRA says it will establish a lab to monitor and detect unauthorized use of content via set-top boxes, websites and other streaming platforms. The company says it will target both linear feeds and VOD content, and take action to have that content removed. It will also take steps to identify people selling pirate services (such as Kodi boxes augmented with infringing addons and unlicensed IPTV resellers) with an aim to either educate or gather evidence for future lawsuits. The latter option could prove quite expensive. According to figures provided by IBCAP, since 2014 the group has obtained judgments or settlements against IPTV box manufacturers, providers, and retailers in excess of $100 million. “ISP’s, CDN’s, and domain name providers have complied with court orders and unauthorized IPTV services have been disrupted or shut down entirely,” the group says. Crackdowns on IPTV and Kodi box suppliers are becoming increasingly commonplace, particularly in Europe. Action by the Premier League and Spanish authorities shut down a large IPTV supplier last year and fresh action against a pair of IPTV affiliated ISPs was announced just last week by Europol.

  17. Amazon Bans Sales of “Pirate” Media Players, Will Destroy Them Amazon is taking a tough stance against vendors who sell fully-loaded Kodi boxes and other “pirate” media players through its platform. The store now explicitly bans media players that “promote” or “suggest” the facilitation of piracy. Sellers who violate this policy, of which there are still a few around, risk having their inventory destroyed. Streaming piracy is on the rise with popular media player Kodi at the center of attention. While Kodi itself is a neutral platform, millions of people use third-party add-ons to turn it into the ultimate pirate machine. In some cases, the pirate add-ons are put onto the devices by vendors, who sell these “fully-loaded” boxes through their own stores or marketplaces such as Amazon. While Amazon has never explicitly allowed the sale of copyright-infringing devices, they are not hard to find in its store. This is a thorn in the side of major copyright holders, who have repeatedly complained about fully-loaded boxes. Amazon appears to be well aware of the controversy, as it recently published an updated policy clarifying that pirate media players are not permitted on the platform. Merely ‘suggesting’ that devices can be used for infringing purposes is enough to have them delisted. “Products offered for sale on Amazon should not promote, suggest the facilitation of, or actively enable the infringement of or unauthorized access to digital media or other protected content. Any streaming media player or other device that violates this policy is prohibited from sale on Amazon,” the company writes. Amazon states that it is up to the vendor to determine whether their products meet these standards. Those who still cross the line are in for an unpleasant and costly surprise. Amazon states that it will destroy the devices without reimbursement. “If you sell these products, we may immediately suspend or terminate your selling privileges and destroy inventory in our fulfillment centers without reimbursement,” Amazon writes. In addition, if there’s proof that the vendors were engaging in illegal activity, any pending payments may be withheld or forfeited under the policy. Amazon While the announcement was published without fanfare, it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Anti-piracy company Irdeto, which works with several major copyright holders on pirate streaming box cases, sees the new policy as a breakthrough. “This first of its kind preventative measure aims to minimize the pirates’ promotional reach. It’s a policy I hope the other e-Commerce sites will emulate,”‎ Mark Mulready, Senior Director Cyber Services and Investigations at Irdeto, notes. Despite Amazon’s strong language the site still features many devices marketed as fully-loaded streaming media players. Some, including the one below, even use pirate sources such as Icefilms, Primewire and the Genesis Kodi add-on to market their products. Amazon According to Irdeto, the media player software itself is not at fault. In a way, they are a victim of the pirates too, much like copyright holders. The pirate sources and the rogue vendors are the ones that create and maintain the problem. This is also reflected in the legal cases that have been launched thus far over the misuse of Kodi players. Both in the UK and the Netherlands, test cases against sellers of “fully-loaded” devices are aiming to stop the phenomenon. In the United States, the problem is also on the radar now. MPAA boss Chris Dodd recently said that finding a solution to the illegal use of Kodi is one of the main piracy questions the industry currently faces, so it’s likely that more enforcement actions will follow. 21.
  22. Good Afternoon All... It would appear there are some awfully nasty bug hanging around for the corruption Saturday evening. As such we will be taking down the service for maintenance at 12:00pm EST/15:00 GMT. This will be for around an hour as we will be remaking the mains server. Regards, -JUMP
  23. The group behind the popular Kodi software is not happy that their media player is often linked to piracy. Copyright holders would like Kodi to block certain pirate add-ons, but the team doesn’t believe that would be effective. Instead, they’re inviting rightsholders to join their platform and are considering the addition of DRM to make that easier. Millions of people use Kodi as their main source of entertainment, often with help from add-ons that allow them to access pirated movies and TV-shows. As Kodi’s popularity has increased drastically over the past two years, so have complaints from copyright holders. While Kodi itself is a neutral platform, unauthorized add-ons give it a bad name. This is one of the reasons why the Kodi team is actively going after vendors who sell “fully loaded” pirate boxes and YouTubers who misuse their name to promote copyright infringement. Interestingly, the Kodi team itself didn’t help its case by putting up an FBI seizure notice last week, as an April Fools gag. The banner suggested that the site had been taken down by the US Department of Justice for copyright infringement. Downloads of the latest builds of the software were also blocked. Kodi’s April Fools gag This week TorrentFreak spoke with several members of the Kodi team, operating under the XBMC Foundation, who made it clear that they want to cooperate with rightsholders instead of being accused of facilitating piracy. The team told us that copyright holders regularly approach them. Some are well informed and know that Kodi itself isn’t actively involved in anything piracy related. However, according to XBMC Foundation President Nathan Betzen, there are also those who are fooled by misleading media reports or YouTube videos. “There are rightsholders that know who we are and realize we are distinct from the 3rd party add-on crowd,” Betzen says. “And then there are the rights holders who have been successfully taken in by the propaganda, who write us very legal sounding letters because some random YouTuber or ‘news’ website described the author of a piracy add-on as a ‘Kodi developer’.” The Kodi team doesn’t mind being approached by people who are misinformed, as it gives them an opportunity to set the record straight. It has proven to be more challenging to find a way forward with movie studios and other content creators that are aware of Kodi’s position. These movie industry representatives sometimes ask Kodi to remove third-party repo installs and block certain pirate add-ons. However, according to XBMC Foundation’s Project lead Martijn Kaijser, this isn’t the direction Kodi wants to go in. “Our view on this is that [removing code] would not help a bit, because the code is open-source and others can easily revert it. Blocking add-ons won’t help since they would instantly change the addon and the block would be in vain,” Kaijser tells us. The Kodi team feels that pirates are leeching off their infrastructure and put the entire community at risk. But, instead of taking a repressive approach they would like to see more legal content providers join their platform. With an audience of millions of users, there is a lot of untapped potential on a platform that’s rapidly growing. To facilitate this process, the media player is currently considering whether to add support for DRM so that content providers can offer their videos in a protected environment. While some users may cringe at the thought, Kodi believes it’ll help to get rightsholders on board. “Our platform has a lot of potential and we are looking into attracting more legal and official content providers. Additionally, we’re looking into adding low-level DRM that would at least make it more feasible to gain trust from certain providers,” Kaijser tells TorrentFreak. Kodi addons Although Kodi does go after sellers of pirate boxes, Betzen personally doesn’t believe that this is the answer. The best way to deal with the piracy issue is to offer more legal content through official add-ons. “We’d like to actually work with content providers to have official add-ons in our network. That’s much easier to do when we are proactively attempting to help them to fight copyright infringement,” Betzen says. There are already plenty of legal uses for Kodi, including the DVR system, support for legal sports streaming, and a variety of add-ons such as Crunchyroll, HDHomeRun, Plex and Twitch. However, getting some major content providers on board has proven to be quite a challenge thus far. Kaijser notes that rightsholders have been very reserved thus far. He tried to convince content providers to offer official add-ons, or even turn some community made ones into official ones, but hasn’t had much success. In a way, the repeated piracy discussions and news items are both a blessing and a curse for Kodi. They help to grow the platform at a rate most competitors could only dream of, while at the same time keeping rightsholders at bay. Time will tell if Kodi can turn this around.
  24. Device maintenance is extremely important for Kodi. Whether on phone, android box, PC or whatever you choose to use Kodi on. I highly recommend Wookie Clearer. This addon stays hidden, and clears cache, purges packages, and deletes thumbnails on every Kodi startup. This will keep streaming smooth and help with crashes and buffering. The repo: http://wookiespmc.com/addons File Manager Add Source Tyoe exactly, all lowercase http://wookiespmc.com/addons edit source name "Wookie" System Addons install from zip "Wookie" There is 2 files in there (at this time) Wookie Flix and the Auto Clearer. Install Auto Clearer. The addon is instantly enabled and nothing else is required of you. It will automatically do the maintenance function is was intended to do instantly and on every Kodi start up from here on out, unless the addon is down. Keep this in mind when you begin having trouble. Restart device and this should fix the issues, unless the problem is generated elsewhere. Thanks, for reading and I hope this helps you in the future. 25. New Kodi website causing issues with ES File Explorer sideloading — Easy Fix Kodi just launched a completely redesigned website last night that is making things difficult for those trying to sideload Kodi onto an Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick using ES File Explorer. The new modern Kodi site is making it difficult to download the Kodi APK using ES File Explorer’s rudimentary web browsing capabilities. Nate from the Kodi team asked me to look into the issue and post a solution if I find one, so here’s an explanation of what’s happening, as well as a very simple workaround. Before getting into things, it’s worth mentioning right of the bat that you can select the Kodi download link with the Downloader app just fine on Kodi’s new website, and it’s by far an easier way to navigate a website and download an APK on the Fire TV than ES File Explorer. The navigation menu on the Kodi site is still an issue, but just select the Android link lower on the home page to get to the download page and you’ll be installing Kodi in seconds. If you’re adamant in still using ES File Explorer, the issue lies with the app’s inability to recognize some links on the new Kodi site as valid links. There is a slight issue with Kodi’s navigation menu, but the real issue comes when you try to select the Android link on Kodi’s download page. ES File Explorer simply will not highlight the link for you to select it. The workaround is simple. Just as you would if you were using my Downloader app, ignore the navigation menu on Kodi’s site completely and scroll down to the “Android” link in the “Kodi runs on just about anything” section of the home page. Selecting that will take you to the download page. On the Kodi download page, scroll down past the “Choose your weapon” section, where you normally would select Android but currently cannot. Select the “here” link in the “Older Releases” section of the download page. Even though this area is meant to be a place to access older versions of Kodi, you can also download the latest version from here. So just select “android” then “arm” and pick the latest version of Kodi to download the APK.
