🔥🔥🔥 Upgrade to Kodi 17.3 Krypton to Patch Major Security Flaw (24/May/2017) 🔥🔥🔥   05/24/2017

Upgrade to Kodi 17.3 Krypton to Patch Major Security Flaw (24/May/2017)   We’re very sorry to have to bring you this news, but upgrading Kodi to the latest version (released today) is fairly urgent if you wish to keep your network secure. Earlier today, a security flaw within Kodi (and other media players including VLC) was reported by researchers from Check Point Software Technologies. They demonstrated that an attacker could gain control of any Kodi device through the use of malicious code placed within subtitles. Hypothetically, if an infected subtitle file were to be downloaded by Kodi, it could give a hacker full control over your device. This is particularly concerning when it comes to automatically downloaded subtitles. It is very important that you upgrade Kodi as soon as possible, otherwise you could be leaving your entire computer, device, or even home network at risk. Security flaws in software happens all the time, it’s normal. This security flaw also affected many other media players that are far more popular than Kodi. The important thing is that the issue was fixed quickly, and so far no damage has been reported. However, now that the security flaw has reached mainstream news, hackers will now likely be looking to exploit it far more aggressively. The official developers of Kodi have been working tirelessly to release an updated version of Kodi that would fix security flaw, as well as some other minor bugs. Team-Kodi “highly encourages” all users to install this latest version, as do we. If you’re still running Kodi 16.1 Jarvis or below, you might as well upgrade now, that way you’ll also gain access to all the streams that use newer HTTPS technology not supported in older versions of Kodi anyway. If you follow the instructions below carefully, upgrading should be super easy. Please note that these instructions describe the unofficial use of the Kodi media center. Before Proceeding Android Users: Those of you who are running older devices or cheap Android boxes might run into some trouble. Kodi 17.3 Krypton requires Android 5.0 or higher to run. If your device doesn’t support Android 5.0, you’ll need to buy a new Android TV box in order to continue to enjoy Kodi. Apple TV 2 Users: Even though the last two versions of Kodi didn’t support the Apple TV 2, the device still seemed to work alright. This will no longer be the case moving forward, without HTTPS or HD support it’ll be next to useless, it’s time to purchase a new Android TV box. United Kingdom Users: It will be necessary to disable certain router security settingsbefore continuing, we’d also highly recommend using a VPN Provider to circumvent site blocking. Thank You 🙂 And Have A Great Day.

  1. UK ‘Piracy Warnings’ Are Coming This Month This month UK Internet providers will start their long-awaited piracy alerts campaign. With help from copyright holders and support from the Government, ISPs will send email notifications to subscribers whose connections are allegedly being used to pirate content. Today we take a look at what’s in store. In an effort to curb online piracy, the movie and music industries reached an agreement with the UK’s leading ISPs to send “educational alerts” to alleged copyright infringers. The piracy alerts program is part of the larger Creative Content UK (CCUK) initiative which already introduced several anti-piracy PR campaigns, targeted at the general public as well as the classroom. The plan to send out email alerts was first announced several years ago and is about to kick off. According to ISPReview the first providers will start sending out emails later this month. The four ISPs who are confirmed to be participating are BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, but other providers could join in at a later stage. Thus far CCUK hasn’t announced a lot of detail or specifics on how the program will operate exactly, but here’s what TorrentFreak has learned so far. WHAT WILL BE MONITORED? The “alerts” system will only apply to P2P file-sharing. In theory, this means that the focus will be almost exclusively on BitTorrent (including apps such as Popcorn Time), as other P2P networks have relatively low user bases. Consequently, those who use Usenet providers, streaming services (such as 123movies), or file-hosters such as Zippyshare and 4Shared, are not at risk. In other words, the program only covers a part of all online piracy. A spokesperson from CCUK’s “Get it Right” campaign stressed that the alerts represent only one part of the broader program, which also aims to reach other infringers through its other initiatives. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE TARGETED? The system will apply to everyone whose Internet account has been used to share copyrighted material via P2P networks. That said, copyright holders and ISPs have agreed to cap the warnings at 2.5 million per year. This means that only a fraction of all UK pirates will receive a notice. Some people may also receive multiple notices if their account is repeatedly used to share copyrighted material. “This ensures that people who might have missed an earlier email receive another one – but also allows time for account holders to take steps to address the issue,” a Get It Right spokesperson informed us. WHAT’S IN THE NOTICES? While the exact language might differ between ISPs, the notices are primarily meant to inform subscribers that their accounts have been used to share infringing material, while pointing them to legal alternatives. “The purpose is to educate UK consumers about the many sources of legal content available, highlight the value of the UK’s creative industries and reduce online copyright infringement,” we were told. WHO WILL BE MONITORING THESE COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS? While ISPs take part in the scheme, they will not monitor subscribers’ file-sharing activities. The tracking will be done by third-party company MarkMonitor, who are also the technology partner for the U.S. Copyright Alert System. This tracking company collects IP-addresses from BitTorrent swarms and sends its findings directly to the Internet providers. The lists with infringing IP-addresses are not shared with any of the rightsholders. Each ISP will keep a database of the alleged infringers and send them appropriate warnings. In compliance with local laws and the best practices of the Information Commissioner’s Office, recorded infringements will be stored for a limited time. WILL ANY INTERNET ACCOUNTS BE DISCONNECTED? There are no disconnections or mitigation measures for repeat infringers under the UK copyright alerts program. Early reports suggested that alleged file-sharers will get up to four warnings but we were informed today that there is no limit. This is in line with the overall goal of the campaign which is not targeted at the most hardcore file-sharers. The program is mostly focused on educating casual infringers about the legal alternatives to piracy. CAN THE MONITORING BE CIRCUMVENTED? The answer to the previous questions already shows that users have plenty of options to bypass the program. They can simply switch to other means of downloading, but there are more alternatives. BitTorrent users could hide their IP-addresses through proxy services and VPNs for example. After the U.S. Copyright Alert Program launched in the U.S. there was a huge increase in demand for this kind of anonymity services. SO HOW SCARY ARE THE ALERTS? CCUK’s “Get it Right” stresses that the main purpose of the system is to inform casual infringers about their inappropriate behavior and point them to legal alternatives. The focus lies on education, although the warnings also serve as a deterrent by pointing out that people are not anonymous. For some, this may be enough to cause them to switch to legal alternatives. All in all the proposed measures are fairly reasonable, especially when compared to other countries where fines and internet connections are on the table. Whether it will be successful is an entirely different question of course. The Creative Content UK team is confident that they can drive some significant change. Several benchmark measurements were taken prior to the campaign, so its effectiveness can be properly measured once the first results come in. Update: We clarified that he 2.5 million notices cap is per year, for three years. Also, there is no cap on the number of notices individuals can receive. 2. Is Kodi Legal in The U.K. ? Questions over using and selling the Devices A lot of people will have woken up on Christmas Day to a new Kodi box beneath their tree. But you could find yourself in trouble if you use them under certain circumstances. The Android boxes have proved a huge hit with people desperate to watch PPV films and live sport, including Premier League football, on the cheap. But it turns out there is confusion surrounding the legality of devices, and it depends how they’re used. And with a trader being hauled to court in a landmark case over their legality many are wondering if the boxes will be legal for much longer. Are they legal now? The problem with Kodi is this: although it utilises perfectly legal and easy-to-use software, it can also be easily used for illegal streaming. Subscription sports and movie packages, for example, are only a few clicks away – and all for free. Put simply, Kodi, and boxes with Kodi installed, are perfectly legal. The problem arises when the Kodi app is used to illegally stream subscription content. The confusion around the legality of the boxes is so great that it could take a court case involving a man called Brian Thompson from Middlesbrough to help settle it. He’s thought to be the first man brought to court to face allegations of selling pre-loaded Kodi or Android boxes. The boxes allow you to watch and stream offline and online content. The boxes themselves are legal. But the problem is with pre-loaded or altered boxes to watch PPV content, like Sky Sports or films currently in the cinema. That, claims prosecutors, is illegal. So when will we know? How long is a piece of string? Thompson entered not guilty pleas at court and a trial is expected to start before a judge on May 8. But even if he loses the trial, Brian has already said he intends to fight any decision – even hinting he could take the fight to Europe. That could result in a lengthy court process which could drag out a definitive ruling on the devices. Are there any other similar legal cases? One has just finished, and resulted in one man receiving a four year jail sentence for conspiracy to defraud. In what was first to be the first sentencing of its kind, Terry O’Reilly was handed the tough term for flogging over 1,000 boxes to pubs, who used them to illegally stream Premier League footy. Following the result, Premier League Director of Legal Services Kevin Plumb said: “The courts have provided a clear message: this is against the law and selling systems which allow people to watch unauthorised Premier League broadcasts is a form of mass piracy and is sufficiently serious to warrant a custodial sentence. “There can now be no doubt for consumers that these systems are illegal.” So are they still on sale? They are, and there are loads of them. The case involving O’Reilly was for a conspiracy to defraud, a less serious charge than those Thompson is facing. His charges, which his solicitor claim are used under an “unusual piece of legislation”, see him accused of selling boxes “adapted for the purpose of enabling or facilitating the circumvention of effective technological measures” and a third charge involving “advertising a product to circumvent technological measures”. That case focuses specifically on selling pre-loaded boxes. Until that, or another similar case, has gone through the courts it is likely they will still be sold on the high street. Currently, a quick internet search shows retail giants like Tesco and Amazon are selling similar devices, although they aren’t pre-loaded. What’s happening in the pubs? In October, bosses at a pub in Middlesbrough called the Navigation were fined £8,000 after being caught streaming matches through a Kodi box. And in a show of support for Thompson in his home town, there is a sign up in the front window of another pub warning that anybody who works for the FA, Sky, BT, the Premier League or its “servants” are pretty much barred. It warns that anybody from those firms – who are leading the fight against pubs illegally streaming live footy – will face legal action if they set foot inside. It states: “Any entrance by the above will be considered as trespass and as such any information gained would be by default.” CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL BY CLICKING HERE Enjoy. 😎The Mixdoctor 😎 Team Member of forum.place & Extreme Kodi Testing ( Check us out too ) You Can Now Follow Me On Twitter https://twitter.com/Kodi_Mixdoctor CHECK OUT OUR LATEST SITE Stream Help http://streamhelp.org If We Or This Forum Has Helped You Please Consider Donating To Keep All Videos And Forums Up To Date And Active As The Server Costs Are Great Remember Click Around The Adverts As This Also Helps Pay For Server Costs Thank You And Have A Great Day 🏵 KODI DISCLAIMER We are not connected to or in any other way affiliated with Kodi, Team Kodi, or the XBMC Foundation.
