Disabling Automated Updating of Kodi Addons (16.1 Jarvis or Below)

Step 1: Navigate to the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu.

Step 2: Select the Add-ons tab on the vertical menu bar.

Step 3: Press the left cursor on your remote control until the View options menu pops out.

Step 4: Click on the Auto updates field until Auto updates: Notify is displayed.

Screen-Shot-2016-12-21-at-11.06.10-PM.jp

Step 5: In the future, you’ll may want to click on the Check for updates function in order to check for available Kodi addon updates manually.

Screen-Shot-2016-12-21-at-11.18.17-PM.jp

Step 6: Press the right cursor in order to close the View options menu. Kodi will now prompt you before installing updates when available.

Now you don’t have to worry about whatever sketchy repositories you’ve installed from other sites potentially hijacking others add-ons that they didn’t originally develop. This is also useful if you’ve installed a lot of Kodi addons that you don’t use, and would prefer not to waste Kodi system resources updating all of them, or the main reason for this post to stop Kodi updating itself to the buggy 17 version until its stable.

Quick update

didn't realise that once you successfully blocked Kodi from updating itself and then add a build this block goes back to automatically update so this is what I had to do on the Nvidia Shield.

1. use ES File Explorer to install Kodi 16.1 as the google store only has Kodi 17 now.

2. Block Kodi as explained above

3. install your Build then power off

4 Once powered on DO NOT RUN KODI Turn off your network first

5 Run Kodi, Let The Beast build it's menus and then Block Kodi again as explained above.

6. Power off Kodi (not your box) Reinstate your network the run Kodi

Thats it you have successfully installed Kodi and your build and blocked it so it does not update to Kodi 17.

Quick update to post above and also added it to post

OK, I found this out last night so best to add it into this topic. I didn't realise that once you successfully blocked Kodi from updating itself and then add a build this block goes back to automatically update so this is what I had to do on the Nvidia Shield.

1. use ES File Explorer to install Kodi 16.1 as the google store only has Kodi 17 now.

Hey......

1. So telling Amazon Fire TV not to automatically update apps won't do it? Rhetorical question, 99.9% sure it will not....

2. So you don't have to manually update ALL add-ons all the time, could you just disable the auto update on the Kodi add-on repository? The one named KODIUKTV REPO?

that is correct buddy, stop kodi16.1 updating to 17 as said above and when you go into video addons on your build i.e. The Beast you can disable the ones you don't want. you got it buddy ?

Just to explain further?

1. Telling amazon fire tv not to auto update apps will stop it from updating Kodi & every app on your fire tv

2. You don't have to auto up date all kodi add ons, you can do it automatically or manually, but I don't see any reason you would want to not auto update addons in kodi. You will experience issues with addons, and you'll have to update them anyway.

Lastly, I'm sorry to say I have to disagree with the boys on not updating to Kodi 17 (but I ❤️You guys?) I have had Kodi 17 for months now, it is indeed stable and has been. Kodi 17.1 is the new release candidate, and I do not recommend going to kodi 17.1.
