Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick now support Voice Search for YouTube

7 posts in this topic

If the uncovered Silk browser for Fire TV is any indication, Amazon will enable voice input for Fire TV apps in the future. That might still be a long time away, so in the mean time, Amazon has made voice search possible for one of the most popular apps. With the new 5.2.4.1 software update, you can now use voice search to search YouTube on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.

Amazon has been slowly expanding the Fire TV’s universal search to cover more and more services over time, with the most recent notable additions being Netflix and HBO. Those, and all other services covered by the Fire TV’s universal search, consist of video catalogs that don’t change on a daily basis. YouTube’s video selection, which literally changes every second, can’t possibly be included in the Fire TV’s universal search implementation.

As a substitute for including YouTube content in the Fire TV’s voice search, Amazon has enabled the YouTube app to support the Fire TV’s “Search In Apps” functionality. When you perform a search on the Fire TV, whether it be a voice search or text input search, the results are broken down into various categories, like “Movies & TV” or “Apps & Games.” The final category on the list is “Search In Apps.”

Selecting an app in the “Search In Apps” section simply passes your query to the built-in search function inside that specific app. Prior to the 5.2.4.1 software update, only the Amazon Music app supported this functionality. Amazon has now added the YouTube app, which they’ve created themselves, as the second app to allow this search handoff ability.

To search YouTube using your voice, just perform a regular voice search using either an Alexa voice remote or the Fire TV Remote app. If there are matches to your search in a service included in the Fire TV’s universal search, those results will be listed first, with the YouTube app icon at the bottom. If there are no matches to your search in the universal catalog, you’ll need to press the menu button to make the “Search In Apps” option appear.

Once you select the YouTube app under the “Search In Apps” section, the YouTube app will load directly to its search screen with your query results shown. You can perform another voice search at anytime, but you’ll see the universal search results and will have to select the YouTube app at the bottom each time.

While having direct voice input of text fields within all apps is ideal, and hopefully coming to Fire TV devices in the future, this search handoff functionality is a nice substitute for the time being. Hopefully Amazon opens this ability up for developers to implement themselves so more apps can be included.

I am going to change my old MX tv box, have done some research on google, it seems that the Amazon's tv device and the Roku's tv decice, so I decided to select one from this two brands...I found a top tv boxes review one google, saying that the Amazon Fire TV got over 10,000 apps for the tv box but only 140 channels, and the Roku Ultra got over 3500 channels but not as much as app selections like the fire tv. anyone have experience on the both devices? which one is better?

Hi @Hulowala2 my 1st question for you is; are you just looking for a smart tv box or do you want a box to put Kodi on as well? If you want to use Kodi, then You don't want to buy Roku anything. The only way you can use Kodi with Roku is by mirror casting kodi from your cell phone, tablet or pc. Here's an article about it for you, (I knew this before but people have to be careful because even articles about Kodi on Roku have misleading titles) like this one: https://tunnel2tech.com/install-kodi-on-roku.html

I would recommend against Roku unless you want to stream it from another device. Let me know & I can share recommendations with you as well. Thanks! Sarah

@Hulowala2 then you don't want Roku. You can't put Kodi on Roku. I have 2 fire tv boxes, nvidia shield, t8-v4 box & probox2 air. I love them all. I've been playing with my probox2 air more lately & im really loving it! It's a little less than fire tv box, android, powerful, it has everything, no sideloading. I highly recommend it! ☺️ Sarah

A Big HELLO to all our members on this marvelious World Wide Forum,

We are all here for help and support and obviously news about our hobby and interests and the Staff and Members are all here to share our expertise and knowledge when our members have problems and we all try to help and get you all up and running as quickly as possible.

The main problem with this is some of our members are not helping themselves. Yes, we understand if you got a problem you would like speedy results and answers but time after time we see the same questions like “Help pin wont work” or “Spartan wizard keeps asking me to log on” etc.
In reply to questions like that we ask “what are you trying to install in on?” or “when do you get this error?” etc. Now you can obviously see that this is wasting time on your behalf and you are still stuck and having to reply with the relevant information, hence talking up more time to get you up and running when we want to get you running as soon as possible as thats what the forum is about.

So members please think when posting problems to be solved and take a quick look through this checklist below as the more information you can give us the quicker we can try to resolve your problems and get you up and running.

The very, very first thing to check is your ISP is not blocking you in any way, now you say well it did work last week but please remember ISP’s update numerous times a day so what may have worked last week may not work this week so you need to disable some settings to prevent this from happening. To stop your ISP blocking software please CLICK HERE  This post tells you how to adjust your settings on Various ISP’s and trust me it resolves at least 60% of problems. What are you trying to install? (Kodi, The Beast, Spartan Wizard etc ) What are you trying to install onto?  ( Device you are trying to update/get working ) Method of installing? ES File Explorer or File Manager etc. Let us know how far you are getting until you run into problems. The problem you are having and any error messages. Always try and give us a brief description and order of what you are doing until you get to the point where you are having your problem. Please do not post multiple posts on the same issue as it will get deleted and a warning will be issued NO troubleshooting in pm or by mail as it does not benefit others with the same issue
So a typical question “Help I can't install the Beast wizard !” ( does not tell us a lot does it )

If it looks something like "Help I am trying to install The Beast Wizard from the beast site site on my Fire Stick using File Manager and I keep getting an error saying the link cannot be resolved".

This straight away tells us what we need to know that you're using a Fire Stick and trying to install and download the Wizard from the beast website using the file manager hence we can now help you straight away without asking you what are you installing on etc saving you a lot of time and frustration and getting you going a lot quicker.

Anyway I hope this post explains that the more information you can give us the quicker the members and staff can get you up and running.

If I have missed anything out or anybody thinks something should be added to this post please leave a comment by clicking HERE

      Thanks for reading

      2. Hungry Shark Evolution
Hungry Shark Evolution Next in our Best Amazon Fire TV Games 2017 list is “Hungry Shark Evolution.” It is like a pimped up version of the Sega Genesis classic “Ecco the Dolphin.” The idea is simple: Survive as long as possible by eating everything that gets in your way! The game features a range of different sharks to control and many different weapons and attack modes to use. The game has far better visuals than the Genesis classic ever had and the game play is far more explosive. This is the type of game you can jump on and enjoy when you only have a small amount of time to kill. Works with either remote or Amazon Fire TV gamepad.
      3. Impulse GP
Impulse GP “Impulse GP” is a futuristic racing game where your riders race around the track on hoverbikes. The game is fast-paced with many power-ups along the courses. Best Amazon Fire TV Stick Games
For those of you using an Amazon Fire TV Stick, we have provided a list of games that require a little less in terms of hardware performance. In reality, all games listed in this post should work on the Fire TV Stick but the titles listed below are perhaps more suited. Our best Amazon Fire TV Stick games will run nicely on the Fire TV’s little brother.
      1. Tetris
Tetris And now for the first puzzle game in our best Amazon Fire TV games 2017 list. Tetris is a remake of the Nintendo classic for Amazon and Google devices. The gameplay is exactly the same as the original. As the bricks fall from the top of the screen you must rotate them and line them up in terms of colour before they hit the bottom of the screen. “Tetris” is one of the most popular puzzle games of all time and the version available on Amazon is certainly a great addition. It features the same classic theme tune and there are modes that are designed to look like the very first Gameboy version. Works with either remote or Amazon Fire TV gamepad.
      2. Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em Poker Interested in card games? “Texas Hold’em” is one of the most popular forms of poker out there and is the second of our best Amazon Fire TV Stick games. If you are into card games and particularly poker then “Texas Hold’em” could be one of the best Amazon Fire TV Stick games for you. Works with either remote or Amazon Fire TV gamepad.
      3. Infiniball (TV Edition)
Infiniball (TV Edition) “Infiniball (TV Edition)” is a game that is simple yet very addictive. If you remember the classic board game Marble Madness it is along the same lines. Start the marble rolling and then control its direction to navigate around a maze. The further you get around a maze the higher score you will achieve. It is one of those games that really challenges you to beat previously achieved high scores. The game features multiple mazes to test yourself against. This is one of the most addictive Amazon Fire TV games in 2017. Works with remote or Amazon Fire TV gamepad.
